These free attendance sheet templates give you 8 editable Word documents for classrooms, clubs, meetings and events: a monthly class register, a weekly attendance sheet, a sign-in sheet and a blank attendance sheet with dates to write in. I’m Patrick Elliott, a teacher and Inclusion Lead. As a teacher I have taken registers on paper more times than I can count, so these attendance sheets are laid out the way registers actually get used: names down the side and days across.
In this guide, you’ll find which attendance sheet suits your group, how to add names once and reuse the sheet, and how to keep a simple attendance key.

Which Attendance Sheet or Sign In Sheet Should You Use?
- Monthly class register: a column for every day from 1 to 31 and a total, for up to 25 pupils.
- Weekly attendance sheet: Monday to Friday with a notes column, for 30 names.
- Sign-in sheet: name, contact, time in, time out and signature, for meetings, visitors and events.
- Blank attendance sheet: write in your own 12 dates for clubs, groups and activities that meet weekly.
How to Set Up an Attendance Sheet in Word
- Open the attendance sheet and type your class, group or event details on the top line.
- Click in the first Name box and type each name, pressing Down Arrow to move to the next row.
- Save a copy with your names, so you can print a fresh sheet every week or month.
- Mark each day with the key: P for present, A for absent, L for late and E for excused.
How to Print at the Right Size
The monthly register is landscape, so check the print preview before you print. Use a clipboard so the sheet stays flat for ticking.
