Microsoft Word beginners hub: Patrick from Word Made Easy holding a book

Microsoft Word Beginners Hub

Learn Microsoft Word from the very start, one short chapter at a time. The steps are shown in real screenshots, and every chapter has a practice file.

This free Microsoft Word beginners hub teaches Word from scratch. It takes you from opening Word for the first time to making a finished, printed newsletter. It is written for complete beginners, so there are no long words and nothing is skipped. Each chapter takes about 15 minutes.

Work through the chapters in order, or jump straight to the one you need. Each chapter stands on its own, with its own practice files.

Each chapter links to longer Word Made Easy tutorials when you want more detail. For anything else, Microsoft keeps its own Word help and learning pages.

How the Microsoft Word beginners hub works

  • Short chapters. Each one teaches a few everyday tasks, such as saving a document or adding page numbers.
  • Numbered steps. Every step is one action, and the screenshot has matching red numbers.
  • Practice files. Each chapter has a start file and a finished file, so you can begin anywhere.
  • Check yourself. A few quick questions at the end of each chapter, with the answers.
  • Up to date. Checked in October 2026 with Microsoft 365 for Windows. Notes show where Word for Mac and the free Word for the web are different.
