These free coordinate grid worksheets give you 16 Word documents on US Letter and A4: plot the points, write the coordinates, a coordinate mystery picture and four quadrant coordinates, each in colour and in black and white. Every template is human-made by a teacher: I’m Patrick Elliott, a teacher and Inclusion Lead, and I designed and built each one myself in Microsoft Word, then printed and measured them to check the sizes on the label.
In this guide, you’ll find which coordinate worksheet suits each stage, how to read and plot coordinates, and how to use the answer pages.

What Are Coordinate Grid Worksheets?
Coordinate grid worksheets practise finding and plotting points with two numbers, such as (3, 5): go 3 along the x-axis, then 5 up the y-axis. The same skill is used for maps, graphs and, later, the coordinate plane with negative numbers.
Which Coordinate Grid Worksheet Should You Use?
- Plot the points: plot eight points on a 0 to 10 grid and label each with its letter.
- Write the coordinates: eight points are already plotted; write the coordinates of each one.
- Coordinate mystery picture: plot and join the points in order to reveal a picture.
- Four quadrant coordinates: plot eight points from -10 to 10, using negative numbers.
- Answer pages: every worksheet has a second page with the answers.
- Black and white versions: every template also comes in a printer-friendly black and white version with grey headings, to save ink.
How to Use the Coordinate Grid Worksheets
- Start with plot the points, then write the coordinates.
- Teach the order: the x number first (along), then the y number (up).
- Use the mystery picture as a fun check once plotting is secure.
- Move on to four quadrants when children are confident with negative numbers.
UK teachers often say along the corridor, then up the stairs to remember that the x coordinate comes first. Mark each point with a small cross, not a dot, so it is easy to see exactly where it is. US worksheets call coordinates ordered pairs.
How to Print at the Right Size
- Open the template in Word and press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on a Mac).
- Choose the paper size in the file name: A4 for UK and Australian sheets, US Letter for US sheets.
- Set scaling to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page.
- Print one sheet and measure a row with a ruler before you print a class set.
Every sheet keeps a 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) margin on all sides, so nothing is cut off on home inkjets, school laser printers or older printers with a wide edge.
