This free cursive paper gives you 9 printable handwriting sheets as Word documents: three-line rows with a dotted midline and light slant guides that help joined letters lean the same way, in UK, US and Australian sizes. I’m Patrick Elliott, a teacher and Inclusion Lead. I built these for joined handwriting practice, with the slant lines spaced so older pupils can keep an even lean as they join their letters.
In this guide, you’ll find how to use the slant guides, which size suits which age, and how to print the sheets at their true size.

How to Use the Slant Guides
- Keep the down strokes of tall letters parallel to the faint slant lines.
- Small letters reach the dotted midline; tall letters reach the top line.
- Join each letter from the baseline, keeping the same slant across the word.
- Left-handed writers can turn the page slightly clockwise and still follow the guides.
When to Start on Cursive Paper
Children are usually ready once their printed letters are the right size and sit on the line. Start with the largest size, then move down as joins become smooth.
How to Print at the Right Size
The slant lines are thin, so print with a good quality setting rather than draft. That keeps the guides visible without being heavy.
FAQs
Do the slant lines matter?
Yes. They help children keep every letter leaning the same way, which makes joined handwriting look neat and even.
Which size suits older children?
Use 10 mm or 3/8 inch rows once joins are secure and writing is getting smaller.
What angle are the slant guides?
About 55 degrees from the baseline, a common slant for joined handwriting. They are faint so they guide without distracting.
Does it work with my school’s cursive style?
Yes. The paper has no letters printed on it, so it works with any joined or cursive style.
Can left-handed children use it?
Yes. Tilting the page a little clockwise makes the slant comfortable for most left-handed writers.
Is this cursive or joined handwriting paper?
Both: cursive is the US name and joined handwriting is the UK name for the same skill.
Conclusion
This cursive paper keeps joined writing even and well sized, human-made by a teacher and ready to print from Word.
