These free binder cover template downloads give you 16 Word documents on US Letter and A4: a binder cover, binder spine inserts, a table of contents and a section divider, each in colour and in black and white. I’m Patrick Elliott, a teacher and Inclusion Lead. I keep a binder for every class and project, so I built a cover, contents page, dividers and spine strips that match, and measured each strip against real binders.
In this guide, you’ll find which page goes where in a binder, how to pick the right spine width and how to keep a binder organized all year.

What Is a Binder Cover Template?
A binder cover template is a page that slides into the clear front pocket of a view binder, with a big title and your details. Matching spine inserts, a table of contents and section dividers make it quick to find anything inside, whether the binder is for a class, a project or the office.
Which Binder Template Should You Use?
- Binder cover: a large title box, your name, year, class or department and contact, and a list of what is in each tab.
- Binder spine inserts: four strips at standard spine widths: 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 inches on US Letter and 25, 40, 50 and 65 mm on A4.
- Table of contents: numbered sections with page numbers, filled to the bottom of the page.
- Section divider: a title page for each section, with a list of what is in it.
- Black and white versions: every template also comes in a printer-friendly black and white version with grey headings, to save ink.
How to Make a Binder Cover
- Click the title box and type the binder’s name in large letters.
- Fill in your name, the year and what the binder is for.
- Measure the spine of your binder and type the title on the matching spine strip.
- Print at 100%, cut out the strip, and slide the cover and spine into the pockets.
Measure the spine itself, not the ring size: a 1-inch ring binder is often a little wider than 1 inch. Print the table of contents last, once you know which tab holds what.
Black and White Versions
Every template on this page also comes in a black and white version with the same layout: grey headings and an outlined title, so it prints clearly on any printer and saves ink. In the download box, choose Colour, Black and white or All, then your paper size: A4, US Letter or both.
How to Print at the Right Size
Print at 100% (Actual size) so the spine strips keep their widths, then cut along the dashed lines.
